Rocked Out of Sleep

I have trouble sleeping. No secret there. Each night something manages to wake me up... the dog, the cat, the kid, the husband, my dreams... It happens so frequently that a whole night's sleep is a rare treat. I believe the world does not want me to sleep for some cosmic reason.

Last night the world sent an earthquake! The dog and I were sleeping in the arm chair in the living room (Dividoo was sleeping on the couch with the flu) when we suddenly sat up and looked at each other, then all around. The house was swaying and I could hear something like a train in the distance. We got up to see what was the matter. Not Santa. Not tornado. Going from window to window, we couldn't see anything. No wind the trees, no sirens, no turkeys (there was turkey walking by the other day). Good thing the news reported a 5.2 earthquake in Salem, IL this morning that could be felt all over the Midwest. I was beginning to think my dreams were becoming telekinetic.

Note: The entire year we lived in California I didn't feel a single tremor.
