Here are several things I haven't had time to write about in the last month:
Not Snowman - Our last Sunday at UUI (our church) was sprinkled with sentimental good-byes and stories of California. So many people have told me that they onced lived in California or that they know someone who lives there. This is funny because when we visited CA a couple weeks ago, it seemed that everyone we met had moved there from somewhere else. I'm beginning to think that CA is actually a very large motel. Anyway, our last Sunday was a snowy one. A fitting farewell to our Midwestern life. On our way to the car, Divina took a little fall and landed with her hands planted firmly in the snow. When we rose, quickly, her little hands were covered in icy flakes. Then she said, with the same disgust that I use when something very inconvenient just happened, "Snow, man!"
Everyone has an Adoption Story - The above story, the CA part, put me in mind to tell you about how many people have told me that they are adopted since Divina came. People sometimes approach me and ask if we adopted her. These are often people who tell me that they, too, were adopted. It's not something you can tell about a person by looking at them. People can see that Divina is adopted because its obvious, but on her own she's just a little girl. I'm never really sure what to say when people tell me that. What I really want to say is "So, how it that working out for you?" Perhaps I'll try this some day. One time a very nice man told me about his adoption experience. He dated a girl when they were young and she ended up pregnant. She decided to choose an adoption plan for they baby. He was invited to be involved with the plans, but he didn't really want to place the baby for adoption so he stayed at a distance. This was the most facsinating story yet. It's not often you hear the side of the birthfather. His eyes were wet when he told me about it. I'm so glad he shared his story with me. He told me that he had never told anyone else about it.
There are more things I want to tell you now, but Divi is asking for me. Later.
