Divina has a great way of mixing up words. She often says "spill" instead of "pour." I've tried to explain that pouring is spilling on purpose, but it's to no avail. She wants to spill the plants. Hmm. Still not there. Divina has a great way of combining actions into one phrase. When she wants to water the plants, she substitutes "water" for "spill", which is what you do with the water. So she "spills the plants" when she pours water on them. We know what she means. If only we could get her to "spill" it on the plants and not the patio. Hmm. Spill the patio.
I have to be careful what I say, and sing! One day Divina was extra temperamental while we were waiting in traffic. So I ran through my repertoire of songs and ran out. So I dug deep into the recesses of my mind and recalled a song my sister used to sing to me. "I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee..." Now if you know the song you know that there are terrible things that happen to this bee. First it stings you, so you smash it, then it's a mess, so you lick it up, then you feel sick, so you throw it up, then there's another mess, so you mop it up. I sang the song exactly three times in a row. That was over a week ago. No harm done, right? She learned the song! It's one of her favorites and she wonders around singing about smashing baby bumble bees and licking them up. Good grief. This does not bode well for my plan to raise her with a philosophy of non-violence.
