Wicked Tra La La Pics

We are collecting the new toys from McDonalds. Yes, this means I am purchasing chicken nuggets for my child consumption. Shut up. They are offering Wizard of Oz dolls. They are too cute! And she really likes them. We have the Wicked Witch of the West, the Witch of the East, Glinda the Good Witch, two Cowardly Lions, and the Tin Man.

I've been trying to read Wicked, a take off Wizard of Oz. It's the story told from Elphaba's point of view, the Witch of the West. The author has taken some liberties and named the Witch of the East, Nessa Rose, and pieced together some very interesting background as to why Glinda removed the infamous shoes from Nessa Rose, when the house fell on her, before Elphaba could get to them. It's a very good read.

Anyway, I told Divina the story of how the house fell on her and some chick stole her shoes and put them on Dorothy. Then I explained that some people call girls "chicks", like baby chickens. Divina now tells the story of Nessa Rose, the house, her feet sticking out, and some chicken stealing her shoes.

Today we finally got the Glinda doll and we have all the characters needed for the theif chicken story. I told Divina that Glinda (as per Wicked, the book) calls herself the "Good Witch" but she's not good at all. Then Divina nodded and said "You never can tell." Amen to that, sister.

The Wiggles have a song called "Brown Girl In the Ring" which has a very suspicious ring, if you ask me. So I Googled it and found that it's a game played in the Caribbean. Adolescents form a circle and the girls take turns entering the center and do their favorite dance while the others sing the song "brown girl in the ring, tra la la la, brown girl in the ring, tra la la la la la la, she looks like a sugar and a plum" then the girl picks her favorite boy. It 's a courtship game. Ah, that's much better than the terrible racist taunting I was imagining. It has a very catchy tune and Mark and I often find ourself humming it over and over. Sheesh.

Here's Divina dancing to it. Notice her really getting down. She's actually do the steps as they do it on the show.

Lastly, here are two interesting photos taken by Divina this morning. I am fascinated by what she chooses as her subjects. Today we have "computer" and "blankie."

Chao.

Is that what Mc D'd is having now? I used to purchase the Happy Meals just to get the toy when they had those 3 legged things that had a button on the belly. Push it and it plays music. By far the very best ones. And most time the kids would not eat the nuggets.

Anyway, I surprised myself and actually remembered "There's a brown girl in the ring" Maybe because we used to play it so much.

So.."girl show me your motion, tra la la la la" Yes that's when we'd get down. hehehehe...oh fond memories
