Bees Attack!!!

Holy Jeez. Last night (well evening) Divina, dog, and I were out for a bike ride/dog walk when we spotted Divi's friends playing in front of one of the houses. As we approached, the girls darted to the backyard. They had CB radios and were acting like detectives (or something) and Divina was the creature/bad guy (or something). Valerie and Brook climbed to the platform of the wooden play structure. Hannah stayed on the ground. Divina followed them. I was standing halfway between the front and backyards, beside the house, with the dog.

Suddenly, Brook began frantically yelling "Get it off me! Eww! Get them off!!!" Then Valerie fell back on the platform, legs kicking, and she began screaming, too. Hannah was walking backward, looking terrified. Brook and Valerie nearly fell off the play structure and ran into the house, arms flailing, yelling, crying. Divina still followed them. As I approached the back door I saw the girls in the kitchen, with Brook's mom, all screaming, and *bees* everywhere! Divina was standing in the doorway. I yelled "Divina, come here now!" The door to the kitchen slammed shut and I told Hannah and Divina to get to the front yard, NOW. Hannah ran, but Divina was sluggish, as usual.

As we walked around the house, I saw at least six bees on Divina's dress. I swatted them off, but two stayed put. Divina began wailing, tears streaming down. They stung her! I brushed my hands all over her body trying to find more when I saw about five more on her head! I hit one, slapping Divi on the crown. Then I started pulling them off with my bare hands. I can't believe I picked up that many bees with just my fingers.

Hannah looked terrified and almost crying. I was pulling Divina and dog out of the yard. We left the bikes and hurried to get home. Brook's dad came out and helped Valerie get home. She had been stung several times, so had Glen and Tammy (Brook's mom and dad). He said the bees didn't look like regular bees. I took Hannah home and met Mark halfway. He took Divina, as I said "She's been stung at least twice. Get her home and take all her clothes off. Make sure there aren't any more on her!" On the way to Hannah's house, she said "I want to run now." She was so scared. I said "Okay, let's run." So we ran the rest of the way.

At home, I found Divina, still shaking and crying, wearing panties in the kitchen, with Mark examining her back. She had one sting on her back and one on her arm. I quickly Googled "bees sting first aid" and read aloud the instructions. Mark found one stinger in her hair. Damn insect probably couldn't get through and left it's nasty weapon there. We couldn't find any other stingers, so proceeded to put ice packs on the stings, now bumps. Divina calmed down surprisingly quickly and now tells the story as if she's going to get an Oscar.

BTW... The first aid website said "If you are attacked by several stinging insects at the same time, run to get away from them. Bees release a chemical when they sting. This alerts other bees to the intruder. More bees often follow. Go indoors or jump into water. Outdoors, a shaded area is better than an open area to get away from the insects." Exactly the opposite of what we did.
