Beth, Beth, Beth. That's our minister. She gave us this reading to do before our next Worship Associates meeting. Granted, she warned that it was a doozey, and we are not obligated to read it as gospel, just for interest. Well, I took it as a personal challenge and found that I had to go out and buy a dictionary (mine has been lost for two years and I finally broke down and replaced it.) This reading was about what worship is, specifically what UU (Unitarian Universalist) worship is. My brain was stretched like a rubberband and is now in rebound, all jiggily and twisted. It took me three days (2 hours a day) to get through all 4 pages. Some words I had to look up were: implicit, explicit, syllogism, dialectical, consumatory, and anomic. It wasn't just the words that slowed me down, it was the deep liberal philosophy. My synapses just aren't used to this stuff. Yet, I'm glad for it.
Divina has decided to try out for American Idol. When the show comes on, she says "shh! American Idol is on!" I wonder where she learned to say that. When the singers are doing their thing, she stands in the open area of the living room and belts out her favorites, such as "Twinkle Little Star" or "EIEIO." While singing, she stretches out her arms and turns around, then she puts a big finish on the end. We cheer and clap and she covers her face and laughs. She clearly understands that it's a performance that we are appreciating. I wish I had a video recorder.
